The Troodos Forest is a natural habitat for rare plants and wildlife and was declared a National Forest Park in 1992 thanks to its high ecological, scientific and touristic values. We will visit one of the Venetian bridges built during the period of the Venetian Republic over the Diarizos River and stop at one of the hidden waterfalls in the Troodos Mountains. If we’re lucky, we might spot a wild mouflon sheep maneuvering swiftly down one of the steep slopes. In the winter season we will enjoy the snowy mountains and villages that create a fairy atmosphere. In the afternoon we will stop for a meal at a local tavern, with a breathtaking view and enjoy fine local cuisine.
The Akamas Coastal Route – Paphos, Akamas, Latchi
The Akamas Nature Reserve is one of the prettiest places in Cyprus. The area spans over 230 square kilometers, with many valleys, gorges, wild bays and a large variety of flora and fauna, some of which are unique to the Akamas region. On this tour, we will visit the Akamas Gorge, located in the Paphos district. It was created by water streams that flowed on the limestone for thousands of years, carving walls that rise up to 30 meters high and a spectacular 3-km stretch of rock. We’ll visit Lara Bay, home of the sea turtle reserve where you might be lucky enough to see baby turtles on the beach from mid-July to late September. During the rest of the year, you can bask in the beauty of the bay and learn interesting facts about the reserve. You can swim in the bay water throughout the whole year (if you are brave enough in the winter). From there, we’ll proceed to breathtaking Sceneries, followed by the Baths of Aphrodite, where according to mythology, Aphrodite met her beloved Adonis and used to bathe. You will hear the full mythological tale during the tour. We will then visit small villages (some of which are abandoned) that bear witness to the days when Muslims and Christians lived side-by-side. We will stop in one of the villages to observe the preparation, of traditional Cypriot coffee. Time permitting, we will proceed to the wrecked ship “Edro III”, which unfortunately ran aground due to some technical failures in 2011. This is where we will break for lunch at a local taverna.* Lunch will need to be pre-booked, the cost not being included in the tour and therefore will be at an additional charge.
Earth and Water – Jeep ride and cruise to the Blue Lagoon in Latchi
The route starts at Paphos, passes through banana plantations and carob trees, continuing towards Lara Bay, the bay of the turtles. If we are lucky, we will see baby turtles who hatched from their eggs and are ready to make their way to the sea for the first time. If we’re out of luck, we’ll still get to see the protected turtle nests and hear a full account on the various types of turtles, mother turtles, turtle births and other fascinating facts. From there the tour will proceed towards Latchi, where we’ll set off on a 3-hour boat ride, including a mesmerizing stop for a swim in the Blue Lagoon. The boat can carry up to 45 guests, the cruise being all at once pleasant, intimate and exclusive. It includes a 40-minute sail to the spectacular Blue Lagoon, where we will dock for an hour and a half to swim in the water. The ship is stocked with snorkeling equipment, float noodles and life jackets for adults and children. We’ll then sail back to Latchi Harbour. Lemonade, local wine and fruit will be offered during the cruise. Additional soft drinks and snacks will be available for purchase on board. Next, we will stop for lunch at a local taverna. After lunch, the tour will make way to traditional villages, through which we will learn about the history and culture of Cyprus.
